FAQ´s
Comfortable indoor ventilation systems ensure sufficient and healthy air exchange independently and around the clock. Far too often, however, newly built or modernized building envelopes no longer allow natural air exchange through cracks and joints. Sufficient, repeated purge ventilation in all rooms is not feasible for most people in everyday life. Particularly in large cities, opening windows also means fine dust, pollution or exhaust fumes.
This is where Zehnder ventilation systems come into play. They transport clean, fresh air indoors – without any annoying pollen or impurities. In addition, excess humidity in the rooms, and thus the formation of mold, is prevented, which protects not only the health of the occupants but also the value of the property.
Of course – we all know the pleasure of flinging open the windows on a lovely day! This aside however, the system is designed to optimize indoor air quality at any time of the day or night in all weathers without having to worry about external noise ingress or security considerations.
A ventilation system with heat recovery decreases your energy consumption when compared to standard alternatives. As well as recovering heat which would otherwise have been exhausted to atmosphere, our systems use energy efficient DC motors to limit energy consumption in every way.
On the contrary: compared to window ventilation, with Zehnder comfortable indoor ventilation, the energy effect of the airtight building envelope is fully utilized. With up to 96% heat recovery, up to 50% heating energy can be saved.
Instead of heating the room air directly, the ceiling heating or radiant ceiling panel uses the principle of radiant heat. This principle is comparable to the warmth of the sun's rays on a cold winter day. For heating, the electric blanket emits the heat energy as infrared radiation, which hits the surfaces and objects in the room and warms them.
The cooling ceiling absorbs the heat energy in the room and transfers it to the water-carrying pipe system that runs in the chilled ceiling system. The cool water extracts the heat from the surfaces and objects in the room, creating a pleasant coolness and an optimal climate.
Unlike air conditioning, ceiling systems do not use environmentally harmful refrigerants. A cooling ceiling uses water that flows through the pipes. Cooling systems, like an air conditioner, have a lot of air movement, which is often perceived as uncomfortable. In addition, an air conditioner is mounted on the wall, taking up valuable space. Ceiling systems for heating and cooling are also much more energy efficient than an air conditioner.
Yes, the systems fit together perfectly. A heating and cooling ceiling can be operated with a heat pump by using the heat pump as part of a water-based heating system. The flow temperatures are very low and are 45–60°C, as compared to underfloor heating. We will be happy to advise you on the optimal design for efficient heat transfer.
In contrast to air heaters, gas radiators, underfloor heating or air conditioning, heating and cooling ceilings save up to 40% energy. In addition, there is no noticeable convection. The floor and walls are free of radiators or air conditioners, which offers new design possibilities.
Heating and cooling ceilings are available in open and closed versions. Therefore, there are many variants for integrating all kinds of other functional elements. Lamps, for example, can be integrated into cut-outs or mounted between or below the ceiling panels. Sprinklers, loudspeakers, air outlets, etc. are also placed in cut-outs.
Condensate forms from the interaction of temperature and humidity. Chilled ceilings are therefore operated as a surface system with low sub-temperatures (difference to room temperature). This already limits the area in which condensate can form. The rest is taken care of by the system control, for example with temperature and humidity sensors.
Particles exist in the air of your workplace, created by movement, transport, and production processes. Most of these particles, including dust, smoke, fumes, and odours cause unnecessary cleaning and maintenance costs. The most toxic of these can seriously endanger the health of your employees in the long run, causing both absenteeism and a negative corporate image. Industrial air purifiers are not replacing ventilation. Ventilation transports your used room air (CO 2) out of the building and replaces it with fresh air. Air purifiers, on the other hand, trap harmful particles that are present in both fresh and stale air. Air purifiers are particularly recommended in buildings without windows.

First of all, both are able to remove dust and other particles from the air. But there are some differences between professional air purifiers and an air washer. In contrast to the air purifier, which can contain many filters of different strengths, the air washer only uses water as a filter, which makes it less efficient (in terms of air purification). However, air washers also humidify your air.
Our air purifiers and filters deal with all kinds of airborne particles. These include coarse particles, fine dust, vapours, bacteria and germs. Even oil or fog particles and odours can be removed. In scientific terms, these are particles of sizes PM 10 (= 10 micrometres (µm)), PM 2.5 (= 2.5 micrometres (µm)) and PM 1 (= 1 micrometre (µm)).
Filter replacement for dirty filters depends on the dust levels in your facility. Normally, filters in an industrial environment have to be changed every 3, 6 or 9 months. In an office, every 12 months may be sufficient.
When filtering corona viruses, it’s not the air purifiers themselves that make the difference – but the filters that are installed. It’s worth noting, that filters which capture corona viruses are known as HEPA filters – preferably in the HEPA 13 and 14 classes. We use either a CleanAir or CleanAir Max with a corresponding HEPA 14 filter.

Electric bathroom Towel Dryer:
An electric Towel Dryer is often used in the bathroom to supplement underfloor heating. It fits perfectly into an energy-efficient house, especially when combined with solar panels and ventilation with heat recovery. In the bathroom, the electric Towel Dryer serves to increase comfort and to warm and dry towels. This makes it possible to react individually and quickly to the different requirements in the room.
Operation on central heating system and low water temperature radiator:
The second type of decorative Towel Dryer is for operation on a central heating system. The Towel Dryer is connected to a central heating system. The water is heated in the heat generator and then flows through the Towel Dryer. The energy is released into the room in the form of heat.
Hybrid radiators (dual energy operation):
Zehnder supplies bathroom Towel Dryers for hybrid heating systems, which are a combination of central heating and electric heating. The Towel Dryer uses hot water to heat the room, but also offers a built-in electric heating cartridge for added comfort, especially during the transitional period and when warming and drying towels.
Every Towel Dryer is connected to the heat generation system. The connection between the two parts is made via pipes - modern Towel Dryers are connected with two pipes. The desired temperature is set via the thermostat. The water is heated by the heat generation system and delivers warm/hot water to the Towel Dryer via the pipes. The heat of the water that flows through the Towel Dryer is then released into the air. The water cools down and sinks into the Towel Dryer. It then flows back again via the return pipe. The heat generator heats the returning water again. This creates a constant process that produces a comfortable temperature.
Electric operation:
An electric decorative Towel Dryer is normally filled with a heat transfer fluid. This medium is heated by means of an electric heating cartridge in the Towel Dryer itself. The liquid then circulates in the Towel Dryer and releases heat. Since these Towel Dryers can be controlled individually, various rooms such as the bathroom can be heated in a very short time. There are also dry models with internal heating cables. These are characterized by an extraordinary reaction speed.
